I forgot that Steve was human.
I didn’t think about the pain that he felt.
I forgot that rich people, heads of companies, people in charge cannot be well all the time.
I forgot to put my feet in his shoes.
I fell for the reality distortion field every time, all the time.
I stopped praying for him.
I forgot that there is no rewind in life.

I fell in love with Steve Jobs without even knowing it back in 1989 at MIT using his NeXT computer. That computer brought a unique feeling to me that I cannot explain.
I never met Steve, never saw him in person. But that didn’t matter. I felt his joy in giving something to the people in this world. I felt the respect and love he had for human beings through the care and detail of every part of his products and his company.
A tribute to Steve’s legacy would be for every human being to find their heart, their passion, and go for it with every breath.

Dear Boss,
I have enjoyed working here these past several years. You have paid me very well, given me benefits beyond belief. I have 3-4 months off per year and a pension plan that will pay my salary ‘til the day I die and a health plan that most people can only dream about.
Despite this, I plan to take the next 12-18 months to find a new position.
During this time I will show up for work when it is convenient. In addition, I fully expect to draw my full salary and all the other perks associated with my current job.
Oh yeah, if my search for this new job proves fruitless, I will be back with no loss in pay or status. Before you say anything, remember that you have no choice in the matter. I can and will do this.
Sincerely,
Every Senator or Congressman running for President.

From “The Velveteen Rabbit” —
Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but really loves you, then you become Real.”
“Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit.
“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real, you don’t mind being hurt.”
“Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked, “or bit by bit?”
“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t often happen to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out, and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real, you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”
Success and failure are equal. Without the “try,” they don’t exist.
